| The Company took the lead with
the latest technology in industry. And through continuous updating,
it has kept this leading position for years. Sticking to this trend,
the Company acquired a new hi- tech mill early in 1998. The manufacturing
process has defined three different phases closely watched for by
expert personnel, and supervised by Quality Control Department in
order to achieve high level efficiency. These phases are:
1. PASTE DE-INKING AND BLEACHING
Papeles Nacionales owns two modern de- inking and
bleaching plants which produce high quality pulp able to replace
wooden pulp. Process in this phase comprises three steps:
- Raw material gets delivered
in a watery means. Then it gets through a cleaning system that
removes all impurities from fiber.
- Getting through a flotation system that remove
smaller particles.
- Washing, thickening and bleaching of paste,
to have it ready for next phase.
2. PAPER MACHINE
The paste is subjected to a refining process which
defines the kind of paper to be manufactured. Then, it is taken
to a huge drying cylinder from where it passes to rolling machines
to be coiled in rolls 3.56 m wide and between 1.5 and 2.0 m in diameter.
3. CONVERSION
These paper coils are taken to the conversion machines
where, depending on the kind of paper to be manufactured (bath tissue,
paper napkin, paper towels or facial tissues), final product is
made. Then the product is taken to wrapping machines and finally
to storage centers.
